WHO ARE THE ROBOLIONS?
We are a team of freshman and sophomores at Maryville Christian School ready to embark on another great year participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition! We are supported by adult mentors who come from diverse backgrounds including electrical engineering, computer programming, construction and law.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Training the Technology Leaders of Tomorrow. We design and build a robot that competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) against other in robots in a game that is different each year. But, it’s much more than just building a robot – our team operates like a small business and feels like a family!
Making a Difference, Not Just a Robot! The goal is not only to build a robot, but to bring together what is being taught in school with real world experiences guided by professionals in a variety of different fields. Working with engineers allows students to gain experience in the engineering process to gain useful and real world knowledge of the application of math and science. Working with business and marketing professionals provides students with the opportunity to understand how businesses function, learn to develop budgets, and how to form marketing strategies.
WHAT IS FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a worldwide organization sponsoring robotics competitions for students. It was created in 1989 to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students learn to perform high-quality, challenging work in a competitive but collaborative environment. There is, however, more to FIRST than building robots. During FIRST competitions, teams are rewarded for excellence in design, demonstrated team spirit, Gracious Professionalism® and the ability to overcome obstacles.
FIRST Robotics is all about having fun while learning, and so are we! Along the way our team members learn technical skills from mechanical and electrical engineering, computer programming, marketing and public relations, but most importantly, they learn about teamwork, leadership, respect and integrity.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Come on out and cheer on the MCHS RoboLions at a competition, become a team sponsor, or check out our team at one of our outreach events. As an FTC robotics team, with new technological challenges each year, we have to plan for the future.
